Did you know that your smile greatly suffers if you have an eating disorder? Well, it’s true, which is why our dentist, Dr. Lori Hawkins, and Hawkins Family Dentistry team strongly recommend that you seek help as soon as possible. The sooner you quit this disorder, the sooner your body and smile will be healthy once again. Until you receive the proper help you need, we recommend taking care of your smile by doing the following things:
-Keep up on oral hygiene: Please remember to brush your teeth every morning and every night, floss your smile at least once a day, and rinse your mouth daily with mouthwash. When doing these things, please use tools that have been approved by the American Dental Association.
-Use baking soda: Instead of brushing your teeth right after you throw up, please rinse your mouth with baking soda. Brushing your teeth will only worsen the effects the stomach acid has on your tooth enamel.
-Visit your dentist: In order to keep your smile in tip-top shape, you need to visit your dentist regularly. If you don’t, the eating disorder will eat away at your smile and will cause major dental issues. If you keep up on your six month checkups, there is a higher chance that you will maintain healthy teeth and gums.
