One could argue that your toothbrush is the most important weapon in your fight against oral bacteria. Did you know that caring for it will help it more effectively care for you?
Remember that toothbrushes usually last only 3 or 4 months. Put a reminder in your digital or paper calendar to replace them once a season. Toothbrushes should be replaced earlier if they appear frayed, worn, or become polluted with foreign germs.
When you choose your new toothbrush, look for soft bristles, as well as a toothbrush that is the right size to reach all areas of your mouth. Choose one with the ADA Seal of Acceptance on the packaging. This has been used since 1931 to indicate that a product has passed rigorous testing for safety and effectiveness.
When storing your toothbrush, it’s best to do so upright in an open area with great ventilation. Try to keep it away from other toothbrushes too. A cup or a toothbrush holder by itself will do perfectly. This will allow it to dry out and slow bacterial growth on the brush. If you must put it in a closed space, like for travel, try to air it out as much as possible.
